The Colchester Waits and Colchester Historical Dance present:

15th Century Music & Dance Workshop – 13 March & 14th 2010

with Gaita

10.30am 13 march – 4.30pm 14th March

Fingringhoe Primary School, Near Colchester

Hosted by the Colchester Waits and Colchester Historical Dance, this event will mainly be for players of loud instruments and dancers who are new to the Medieval period. While there will be plenty of current members present we will all be learning material that is new to us and would love to see some new faces.

Our tutors will be Cait Webb and Chris Elmes from the group Gaita, who are specialists in Medieval music, dance and performance practice. They have published several CDs as well as books of music and dance steps from the 12th-15th Centuries. They are particularly enthusiastic about the connections between melody and dance and the way in which a knowledge of both can enhance the performance of either.

The Saturday morning will be dedicated to learning about the dance types and steps of the period and to looking at some original source material. Saturday afternoon will concentrate mainly on the melodies, instruments and how tunes can be arranged for different ensembles, then on Sunday we will work to put everything together.

Fees are £10 for the weekend for members of the Colchester Waits and Colchester Historical Dance, £16 for non-members. Please bring your own lunch. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

The venue is Fingringhoe Primary School , Church Road, Fingringhoe, Colchester, Essex, CO5 7BN.

Tea from 10am, dancing and music from 10.30.

We look forward to seeing you there!
